In AC 392, the Cascadian founding city of Solstitium had the dubious honor of being the site of the first man-made geothermal disaster of its era.
The Solstitium incident was caused by mishandling of a cordium shipment, which ignited the underground cordium deposits. Due to their large numbers, the minerals set off an explosion large enough to kill thousands and displace countless more. The Cascadian National Guard eventually sealed off the area and locked it down under tight security.[1]
The catastrophic incident led to strict mining regulations enforced by both Cascadia and the Pacific Federation, one of the few judiciary decisions they maintained together.
The city itself was rendered uninhabitable for over 40 years.[2]
