The Federation Vertical Navy (FVN) is one of the armed forces branches of the Federation Military Forces. They are the main operators of airships and, being a branch that flies heavily armed flying warships, shares Navy ranks.

It features an unidentified sub-organization called the PDF[1] and has attached units to the Federation Intercept Specialists.[2]

History[]

The FVN's first known action is during the latter stages of the Oceanian War, taking credit for one of the few instances of airship-to-airship combat through the Zetec, which would become the future flagship of the enormous Task Force 1.[3]

At the start of the Cascadian Conflict, the FVN sent out patrols in various places such as Fresnon Range and the Apodock Fracture,[4][5] as well as docked their assets at Prospero, a major airship port.[6] They were also involved in the occupation of Presidia, though in the process lost a number of airships.[1]

Over the course of the war, the FVN lost more and more airships, peaking with the destruction of Task Force 1 at Wai Mami Port in Operation Free Agent, whose loss was irreplaceable even by the airships stationed at Sawaiiki.[7] Following the Cascadian Calamity Event, airships were redirected to guard Brite Fortress, which had become a safe haven for Federation forces surviving the cataclysm.[8]

The final battles of the conflict saw a heavy reduction in FVN military power in general.[9]

Despite being a separate branch from the Federation Navy, the FVN's airships share the same hardware identification and tailcodes as the Federation's naval aircraft.
